What Is the HEXA NFT Card?

In light of its effectiveness and user convenience, this feature will be discontinued by the end of March 2023.

Increasing trust with the HEXA NFT card

The HEXA NFT card is what is displayed as the image when a HEXA NFT is bought or sold in a wallet such as MetaMask. In most cases, NFTs are designed to display the image itself. In that case, however, if an impersonator sells an NFT showing the same image, it becomes hard to tell it apart from the genuine one, which increases the risk that fans will be deceived by the impersonator into buying a fake.

In fact, after the first post by X (formerly Twitter) founder and CEO Jack Dorsey sold at auction for ¥300 million, NFTs with the same content were put up for sale on marketplaces, and Donald Trump's posts were sold without permission. Without expertise, it is difficult to identify fake NFTs.

Preventing NFT impersonation with the HEXA NFT card

For this reason, HEXA NFTs issued by HEXA are designed so that, among the information available from the metadata recorded on the blockchain, the image displayed in wallets such as MetaMask is not the original image itself but a HEXA NFT card showing the HEXA NFT ID (token ID) and a QR code linking to the account-verified HEXA NFT page (the original image can of course still be found from the metadata). As a result, if a malicious third party impersonates the issuer and sells an NFT designed to display the image as is, it is clear that it is an impersonation. Even if the HEXA NFT card itself is faked, you can go to the HEXA NFT page from the ID and QR code, find the link to the correct NFT and its address, and identify the fake. And even if the QR code is forged, it will point to a different domain, and you can enter the ID on the HEXA NFT page to determine whether it is fake.

Issuers can also remove this anti-impersonation HEXA NFT card mask. Therefore, not every NFT has the anti-impersonation card mask applied; it is up to the issuer.

The HEXA NFT page is like a magnifying glass for viewing the blockchain

It is possible to check metadata from an address on the blockchain, or to determine from a blockchain address whether an NFT is fake or genuine. But without expertise and the right tools, it is not easy to match an address on the blockchain against the address the creator has designated as genuine, or to check and verify metadata on the blockchain. The HEXA NFT page makes it easy to compare the address the creator has designated as genuine with the address of the actual NFT, and to identify the contract address it was issued from and the NFT's linked page on marketplaces. It may be easiest to think of it as a magnifying glass that makes the contents of the blockchain easy to read.

What the HEXA NFT page means

The HEXA NFT card shows where to find the HEXA NFT page (the magnifying glass)

The HEXA NFT card is designed to point to the HEXA NFT page described above. Because the HEXA NFT page can be identified from the QR code and the HEXA NFT ID, it may be easiest to think of the card as a prompt that, when you are actually about to buy or sell an NFT, asks you: "Check the contents of the blockchain carefully with the magnifying glass. Is it genuine?"
